In thy Nature

In thy nature is beauty

In thy nature is earth

In thy nature i found my worth

In thy nature is peace

In thy nature i found myself

In thy nature every lasting greens

In thy nature there is more to be seen

In thy nature a beauty untold

In thy nature everything is worth more than gold

Throughout this shoot I recorded interviews with each subject, I asked each person multiple questions about how they felt they belong, what emotions they feel, what memories they have made here and why they feel they belong hear the most….

What is you're chosen location?

"My chosen location is Ballaugh glen."

What was you're first memory here?

"Ballaugh Glen was probably the first memory I can remember, me and my brothers used to come to the lake almost everyday when we were little, I am the youngest of three brothers, that meant toughening up pretty quick in order to keep up with them, I spent endless days here over the summer holidays with them when I was young and then with my friends as I went to school."

What does this location make you feel?

"This place makes me feel Manx, there is a certain energy about this place, it feels like home to me, there is a deep rooted manx energy here, that only people from the Isle of Man can understand."

What does 'belonging' mean to you?

"To me Belonging means not feeling lost, because i have already found a home."

Do you feel that you belong to this Island?

Yes, I feel a strong belonging to this Island. It will always be such a big part of meI grew here, as a person, as a man, I have learnt everything I know today from this island, I feel endlessly grateful to have such an amazing setting for my upbringing. Manx blood runs through my veins and will always be home to me."

I asked Matty to choose a peace of text or poem that best describes their feelings about their personal journey of belonging…
